Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar is one of the American and British sitar artist. She was the first person of her generation to be a member of an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She's the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She spent her childhood bouncing around from London and New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her debut at just thirteen years of age. When she moved to Encinitas the state of California, in 1999 she earned an honorary high school diploma. While she's still young, Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording record. She is often seen performing with her dad and has been doing so for many years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. The Grammy Award-winning live at Carnegie Hall was released two years later than her first solo album. Stage performance is a significant part of her work. She's played in many famous venues around the globe. Anoushka's career goes beyond the realm of music. In 2002 she published the book Bapi The Love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that gives a special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in films in 2003 she acted in the film Dance Like a Man where she is a young Bharat Natyam performer. Her career continues to grow and she is expected to achieve great success in the near future. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent a lot of her youth living between London and Delhi then moving to California where she attended the high school. She began learning music at the age nine and was a sitar player to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the birth of her father in Delhi the following year. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of experience touring around the globe along with her dad. She performed in Carnegie Hall in her teenage years, and recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. She was the youngest and sole female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her artistry and musicianship as a leading musician of music in Asian Arts.
